Pride 2022: A Review of LGBTQIA Resources w/ Dr. Saha

LGBTQ Legislation Across Country

The flurry of legislation that is being passed in many states in this country has targeted
LGBTQIA communities in an alarming fashion. In Florida, there is a bill that has passed making it
illegal to discuss gender and sexuality in any way in schools. In Texas there is a bill that has
passed that criminalizes gender-affirming care (even care that is reversible) for trans and
gender non-conforming youth, for both parents AND providers. And in many states, book
banning has become rampant, especially targeting books with LGBTQIA themes/characters and
any books that discuss race and racism.

These kinds of legislation are severely traumatic and oppressive to queer LGBTQIA children and
families. Such actions erase the experience and fundamental core identities of youth, and we
know this has led to very high rates of depression and suicide. That’s why providing gender and
queer affirming care is so crucial – we need to support, accept, and welcome LGBTQIA youth for
who they are.

Thankfully, there is a movement to counter these hateful legislative efforts, from POTUS (1) to
grassroots organizing on the local level. (2,3). We here at MVP not only support this movement, but we want to create a welcoming, celebratory atmosphere for all children and families, as well as serve as a resource for you, your children, and your family, and we welcome any questions you may have regarding gender and sexuality. When you come to our practice, please share with us your and your child’s gender identity, pronouns, and chosen name; we can ensure that these are included in our practice’s medical records. Additionally, here are some resources that may be helpful for you. Finally don’t forget to check out our IG Live with Seth Rosen which aired
6/14/22 for more information!

Let’s make sure every child and every family is welcome and celebrated! We here at MVP wish
everyone a Happy Pride!!!
